The Senate continued consideration of S. 1160 to authorize funds for FY90 for the Department of State, the United States Information Agency, and the Board for International Broadcasting. A unanimous consent agreement was reached providing for hearings and Senate consideration of a measure concerning the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. The Senate adopted Mitchell-Dole Amendment No. 271, condemning the government of China for carrying out massive arrests and numerous executions of students and workers who participated in the pro-democracy movement in that country. close
