The subcommittee heard testimony from Director William Bennett and others on the national drug control strategy of President George H.W. Bush. In February, President Bush proposed a $6.3 billion budget to support the drug control plan. The budget was recalculated to require almost $8.5 billion. The subcommittee weighed the pros and cons of this new budget proposal.
