Castro HUD Nomination Confirmed

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Julian Castro to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, 71-26.

President Obama officially submitted Castro’s nomination to the Senate on June 2.

Castro's nomination hearing before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee was held June 17.

Castro rose to prominence following a keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. He was introduced to the crowd by his twin brother Joaquin, who represents the 20th District for Texas in the House of Representatives.

The Senate also approved the nomination of Darci Vetter to serve as Chief Agricultural Negotiator for the U.S. Trade Representative by voice vote, as well as that of William Adams as Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
