President George H.W. Bush spoke in a program sponsored by the American Business Conference, an organization of the heads of American small businesses. The program centered on the economy and government policies concerned with small business. In his remarks, President Bush discussed the administration’s program for supporting small business. He supported fast-track trade legislation, which would aid trade negotiations between the U.S. and other countries by making the process of trade legislation ratification much faster. He said the fast-track legislative process affected three important trade negotiations: the Uruguay round of trade talks, the North American free trade agreement, and the Enterprise for America’s Initiative. President Bush also spoke on the importance of education in creating a generation with the proper training to carry forth America’s leadership in entrepreneurship and small business.
