Witnesses testified before the committee about a recently released scientific report that documents climate change in the Arctic. The witnesses asserted, “climate change is real and has far-reaching implications for society.” They noted that the report demonstrates an increase in North American temperature over the last fifty years and argued that this increase is “unlikely to be due only to natural climate variations.” They spoke about the risks of greenhouse gas emissions and the impact of global warming on the Arctic. The witnesses described the methods used in preparing the report, and also responded to questions from committee members. close
