Secretary of State John Kerry released the 2013 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, which examines the status of human rights in countries around the world. He highlighted parts of the report addressing human rights abuses in Syria and North Korea and stated that gays in 80 countries were “under attack and are not safe” due to anti-homosexuality laws, such as one enacted in Uganda during the preceding week. Then acting Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Uzra Zey gave more details and took questions from reporters. close
