On the third day of public hearings on the TWA 800 crash, testimony focused on possible ignition sources for the explosion. In this morning portion, witnesses examined the possible external ignition sources, such as meteorites and weapons. Geology & Planetary Science Professor William Cassidy concluded that a meteorite strike was extremely unlikely considering how few space particles actually reach the lower part of the atmosphere. Federal Aviation Administration Special Agent Edward Kittel concluded that a weapon did not cause the explosion because there were no signature traces on the wreckage. close
