At about 3 p.m., Senator Orrin Hatch R-Utah explained his opposition to the confirmation of Frederica Massiah-Jackson to be a U.S. District Court judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He also defended the Judiciary Committee process of screening Massiah-Jackson. Senator Lott announced earlier in the day that the president had withdrawn this nomination at the request of the nominee. close
