Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney addressed reporters in the Pentagon a few minutes after President Bush had announced in the White House the commencement of the ground operation against Iraqi forces in Kuwait. He announced that henceforth the military would be extremely careful in releasing information to the press in the interest of military security for the operation in the Middle East. He said the military briefings in Washington, D.C. and Riyadh would be suspended until further notice. close
