Author Dinesh D’Souza discussed his book Letters to a Young Conservative, published by Basic Books. According to Mr. D’Souza, the book was a survival guide for youthful conservatives who existed in liberal environments. He felt that fledgling conservatives needed to examine basic liberal assumptions in order to confirm their own beliefs. Mr. D’Souza suggested that the conservative philosophy did not simply advocate “family values” or patriotism, but was a philosophy based on natural rights and a belief in universal moral truths. He went on to explain several topics from that point of view. These topics included how Affirmative Action hurts blacks, fighting political correctness and why government was the problem. A question and answer period followed Mr. D’Souza’s presentation. close
