Author Thomas Schwartz talked about his book, Lyndon Johnson and Europe: In the Shadow of Vietnam, published by Harvard University Press. In the book, he explores President Johnson’s foreign policy vis-Ã -vis Europe and the Cold War. He also drew parallels between the situation then and current circumstances, citing common aspects such as friction with European allies, resentment of American power and influence, and a U.S. president from Texas criticized for his “cowboy diplomacy” and use of unilateral military force.
