A number of officials addressed the National League of Cities conference at the Washington Hilton and Towers. Speeches focused on partnerships and joint programs between the federal government and local governments, as well as the league’s 2004 federal advocacy priorities. The priorities included maintaining and or increasing federal funding for local programs in the areas of homeland security, public safety, transportation, children and families, and housing. The other priorities were to continue to block the Internet Tax Non-discrimination Act of 2003, and to prevent bills or amendments that would absolve producers of Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) of liability. Mr. Hunt served as master of ceremonies.
