House Budget Committee ranking member John Spratt talked about Democrats' view of the budget situation and how to counter Republican budget cutting plans. Among the topics he discussed were discretionary spending, de-authorization of programs, rescinding of certain expenditures, and reconciliation. Representative Spratt also responded to questions and comments from viewers.

A brief video clip of temporary House Majority Leader Roy Blunt was shown. He spoke about the Republican budget agenda.

Representative Mike Pence (R-IN), head of the Republican Study Committee, was on October 18 Washington Journal to discuss Conservative ideas on budget cuts to offset hurricane relief and other spending. These ideas were reported to be the new center of the Republican agenda.
