Representative Blumenauer talked about U.S. policy toward the Palestinian Authority. A member of the International Relations Committee, he was an opponent of HR 4681, the Palestinian Anti-Terror Act which was passed by the House 361-37. It called for placing sanctions on the Hamas-led Palestinian government. Rep. Blumenauer argued that the sanctions could backfire against the U.S as they might embolden Arab extremists, punish moderates, and hamstring the U.S. diplomatically. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
