Thomas Omstad talked about U.S. sanctions on Iran. The sanctions, which are designed to punish Iran for its alleged support of terrorist organizations in Iraq and the Middle East, missile sales and nuclear activities, are the harshest sanctions imposed by the U.S. since the takeover of the U.S. embassy in 1979. Mr. Omestad traveled to the Middle East with Secretary Condoleezza Rice earlier in the year and recently met with Iranian President Ahmadinejad when he was in New York City the previous month. Mr. Omestad responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
