Rural Philanthropy

Panelists talked about the challenges of philanthropy for rural areas, where the poorest people live and there is the least philanthropic involvement. Topics included the episodic nature of crisis-inspired philanthropy, the need to serve the total community, and the lack of support organization. Areas discussed included education and health care. Working models included building partnerships, using the Internet to create involvement, and mobilizing retirees. The panelists also responded to questions from members of the audience.
