Vice President Dick Cheney spoke during the annual journalism awards presentation luncheon for the Gerald R. Ford Foundation. In his remarks he criticized former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s claims made in a recent book about his experiences in the White House, and argued that partisan dialogue and disputes were much more civil than they had been in the past.

Peter Baker, of the Washington Post, received the Gerald R. Ford Foundation Journalism Award winner for coverage of the presidency. Rick Atkinson, of the Washington Post, received the Gerald R. Ford Foundation Journalism Award winner for coverage of national defense. close
