Immediately following the weekly Question Time, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced to members the suspension of direct flights between the United Kingdom and Yemen over security concerns following the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 on December 25, 2009. The ban was part of a package of new security measures introduced by the prime minister in direct response to the failed bombing plot. Other measures included expansion of the Home Office’s watch list and new body scanners at airports. Following his statement, he took questions from the party leaders and members. close
