Matthew Shimura talked about his video, Childhood Obesity: A Challenge Facing America , the middle school section first prize-winning video. He is a seventh grader at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii.

C-SPAN’s StudentCam is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think seriously about issues that affect our communities and our nation. Students are asked to create a short (5-8 minute) video documentary on one of the country’s greatest strengths or a challenge the country is facing. The local cable company was Time Warner Cable.

Laura Hayman, University of Massachusetts College of Nursing and Health Services Associate Dean of Research, followed the interview by video uplink from Boston, Massachusetts and talked about the issue of childhood obesity and the current efforts to alleviate the problem. She also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. close
