Doctors at Memorial Mermann Hospital spoke to reporters on the condition of Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) following surgery to replace the part of her skull that was removed due to brain swelling. He said she is doing well, and is awake and communicating.

Representative Giffords was wounded along with 13 others, and 6 people killed, at a shooting in Tucson on January 8, 2011. close
