Bill Burton and Trevor Potter spoke about the influence of super political action committees (SuperPACs) in the 2012 election. Trevor Potter, general counsel for Senator McCain’s 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns, said SuperPACs could play a damaging role in politics, and that without reform, all candidates would have their own SuperPACs. Bill Burton, senior strategist for Priorities USA, a SuperPAC supporting President Obama, supported its ad attacking Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital, saying that it brought attention to an important issue in the election. They were interviewed by James Bennet.

The program was opened by a video clip of Trevor Potter on “The Colbert Report” as Stephen Colbert transferred his SuperPAC to Jon Stewart.
