Ken Burns talked about his 14-hour, seven part PBS documentary The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. The film chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of the most prominent and influential family in American politics. Geoff Ward, author of the companion book, also joined the discussion. Among other topics they discussed the reasons for their interest in the family, how the policies of Theodore Roosevelt connect to Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” domestic programs, and how the presidencies of both Roosevelts are germane to contemporary debate on the role of government. close
