Jennifer Weber talked about the political climate leading up to the 1864 presidential election. Candidates in the 1864 presidential election were Abraham Lincoln and General George McClellan, President Lincoln’s former commander of the Army of the Potomac. The summer of 1864 was marked by heavy Union casualties and dwindling support for President Lincoln’s end goal of emancipation. Many believed that Lincoln would fail to win re-election.

Her talk took place at symposium on the 1864 presidential election, hosted by the Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia. close
