Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) defended the Republican leadership position to not consider a Supreme Court nomination until a new president was in office the next year. Senator Cornyn said that the Senate had the right to withhold consent. He also said that Republicans should not meet with President Obama’s nominee or hold hearings because the people should have a say in the matter first by voting for president. close
