Sandy Hauser, the bureau chief for Virginia Public Radio/WVTF in Charlottesville, was interviewed via Skype about the state of race relations in her city. She spoke on the one-year anniversary of a white nationalist protest against the removal of Confederate monument in Charlottesville. At that protest, violence broke out, and a man drove his car into counter-protestors, killing one person. A “Unite the Right 2” rally was happening later in the day in Washington, D.C., to mark the one-year anniversary as well as a “D.C. United Against Hate” counter-protest. close
