The House debated whether to adopt a tentative reached agreement between the freight rail industry, railroad workers, and the Biden administration. The measure, which would next go to the Senate and was expected to pass, includes a 24 percent pay increase by 2024 and $5,000 in annual bonuses. It also caps health care premiums. More than 30 railroads and 12 unions had been negotiating a new five-year contract since 2019, but they did not reach a final agreement. President Biden asked Congress to impose the deal on the industry to avert a nation-side strike. close
