Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) spoke from the chamber floor about her personal experiences having children through in vitro fertilization (IVF). She then asked unanimous consent for the Senate to pass her bill to protect the right to access IVF and other assisted reproductive technology services nationwide. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) objected, saying the bill went far beyond ensuring legal access to IVF. Democratic Senators Catherine Cortez-Masto (NV), Patty Murray (WA), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Tim Kaine (VA), Elizabeth Warren (MA), and Ron Wyden (OR) followed. close
