The Society for International Development-United States held its 2024 annual conference, with the theme “World in Crisis: Sparks of Hope.” In this middle portion of the event, a panel of pro-democracy advocates discussed elections and the importance of defending human rights defenders and anti-corruption activists from autocratic regimes. Claudia Escobar, former head of Guatemala’s court of appeals, was one of the speakers in this discussion. In 2024, more than 60 countries held elections. close
