Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the seventh Secretary-General and the first from sub-Saharan Africa, spoke about United Nations changes and its relationship to the United States. He outlined the three main items on his reform agenda, managerial reform and better internal oversight, simplification of organizational structures and the end of duplicative programs sponsored by member states. He also stressed the relevance of U.N. activities to U.S. citizens' daily lives. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience. close
