House Judiciary Committee members heard testimony from Mr. Hundt, cable industry officials and others concerning the rise in cable rates since the Telecommunications Act of 1996 was signed in February 1996. Mr. Hundt defended his agency’s cable television regulations against complaints issued by consumer groups that are calling for a price freeze. Representatives from the Consumers Union and Consumers Federation of America decried the rate hikes and explained their opposition to the committee. close
