Jan Davidson gave a tour of the “Cape Fear Stories” at the Cape Fear Museum. The exhibitt explores the history of Wilmington and North Hanover County, North Carolina. Ms. Davidson said that when colonists arrived the region was densely populated with long leaf pine trees, which were used to create tar. She also explained how tar production became and important part of the area’s economy and led to Wilmington becoming the largest city in North Carolina prior to the Civil War. close
