Describes how he coined the term "Ebonics" to refer to African American Language, as well as his own experience being tracked away from college-preparatory education because his way of speaking was thought be a sign of low intelligence. He explains the research studies he conducted on African American children which prove unfamiliar language to be a tool of falsely (and unfairly) identifying these students as having low intelligence, an issue which can be remedied by modifying the test, and adapting classroom teaching methods. close
