Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell votes in favor of re-authorizing the Voting Rights Act. On this day, the Senate voted 98-0 to restore the VRA.

As of July 28, 2020, as Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell has blocked legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act for 235 days. The House passed the bill, H.R. 4, in December 2019 that would restore a key part of the VRA that the Supreme Court struck down in 2013. H.R. 4 was renamed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act. close
