Reyes admits that in order to "save" the MHPI program in 2004, the spending cap for this program had to be substantially increased. Ironically, MHPI was enacted in 1996 to PREVENT EXACTLY THIS-to PREVENT the govt from spending BILLIONS it reportedly didn't have to rehabilitate appx 200,000 UNSAFE military family homes. The Pentagon & some Congress members "sold" the MHPI program as one that would SAVE TAXPAYERS BILLIONS by enabling corporate real estate developers to invest $3 for every $1 the govt invested into the rehabilitation and subsequent management of SAFE homes & communities for 50 years thereafter. Clearly, that didn't happen. And, in 2019, America learned what military families had known for a decade a more - MHPI FAILED to produce safe military housing! The MHPI program that was "sold" to America is NOT the MHPI program America got. MHPI is a BAIT & SWITCH of epic proportions that demands accountability. close
