House Session June 16, 1995 - This MILCON appropriations bill represents 4% of the total appropriations passed in the FY 1996 NDAA yesterday. It includes $4.3 Billion for military family housing (40% of FY 1996 MILCON appropriations), $22 Million for Secretary Perry's 5-yr, pilot-project to privatize military housing, $207 Million for environmental compliance, $108 Million for chemical demilitarization, etc. Rep. Vucanovich says that as of June 1995, 600,000 "troops" live in base housing and the DoD's current inventory of family homes is 350,000, of which at least 25% are substandard and two-thirds are more than 30 years old. close
