Government officials testified about the initial activities of the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to guard against waste, fraud, and abuse in thepost-Katrina relief and recovery efforts. Topics included the auditing of contracting and procurement activities; monitoring financial controls, public assistance projects, and other grants; review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster management activities in response to Hurricane Katrina; and the OIG’s coordination with other agencies. close
