The Joint Economic Committee held a hearing on the job outlook for 1992. Committee Chairman Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Maryland) talked about the announcement of job cuts by large U.S. firms such as IBM and General Motors. He also cited that the layoff status of 1 in 4 currently unemployed Americans is thought to be permanent. Witnesses spoke about the diminished quality as well as quantity of work opportunities expected in 1992. close
