Adam Goodheart, author of 1861: The Civil War Awakening, talked about the death of Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth on May 24, 1861. A close friend of President Lincoln, he was the first officer killed in the conflict. Mr. Goodheart was interviewed at the exhibit, “150th Commemoration of the Civil War: The Death of Ellsworth” at the National Portrait Gallery.
