Telephone lines were open for viewer responses to the question: “Should the U.S. accept more refugees?” Matthew Lee spoke by phone about the U.S. response to the influx of Syrian refugees fleeing to Europe.

At the conclusion of the program an interview was shown with Roll Call editor and columnist Rebecca Gale in which she talked about the 1978 murder in Guyana of former Representative Leo Ryan (D-CA) in the Jonestown Massacre. Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA), who was an aide to Representative Ryan at the time, was shot five times. The clip was part of several “Washington Journal” interviews with Roll Call writer and editors in honor of the Capitol Hill publication’s 60th anniversary. close
