The Senate Appropriations Committee held a hearing on the proposed $150 billion emergency supplemental appropriations for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and for rebuilding Baghdad. The committee also reviewed the president’s September 15, 2007, report on the war. Military and administration officials testified about the need for additional spending, the progress of security operations, political stability in Iraq, and other issues. Protesters at the hearing interrupted proceedings occasionally, at one point causing the hearing to suspend while they were escorted from the room.
