Panelists discussed world urbanization and how cities are dealing with politics, the economy, violence, innovation, and climate change. Gillian Tett moderated. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel made opening remarks.

“The Power and Limitations of Global Cities” was the opening program of the second annual “Chicago Forum on Global Cities,” held at the Field Museum.

E.J. Dionne spoke about his book, Why the Right Went Wrong: Conservatism - From Goldwater to the Tea Party and Beyond. He spoke with David Mark, co-author of Dog Whistles, Walk Backs, and Washington Handshakes: Decoding the Jargon, Slang, and Bluster of American Political Speech.

He spoke from the H.L. Mencken Non-Fiction Pavilion at the 2016 Gaithersburg Book Festival, held on the grounds of City Hall in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Diane Rehm talked about her memoir, On My Own, in which she discusses how she came to be a spokesperson for the right-to-die movement. She spoke with author Bethanne Patrick.

“A Conversation with Diane Rehm” was part of the 2016 Annapolis Book Festival, hosted by the Key School Parents' Association and held on the Key School campus in Annapolis, Maryland. This panel took place in Katharine Hall.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen and former Chairs Ben Bernanke, Alan Greenspan, and Paul Volcker talked about their approach to decision making during their time at the central bank. Mr. Greenspan appeared via satellite from Washington, D.C. The discussion was moderated by Fareed Zakaria and included questions from members of the audience, including Ms. Yellen discussing the current health of the U.S. economy.

This was the inaugural Paul A. Volcker Distinguished Speaker Program at International House New York.

E.J. Dionne talked about his book Why the Right Went Wrong: Conservatism From Goldwater to the Tea Party and Beyond, in which he looks at the history of Republican politics since the 1960s and how the party’s so-called “rightward move” is impacting the 2016 presidential race.  He was interviewed by Juan Williams.

President Obama spoke at the Righteous Among the Nations Award Ceremony at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. The ceremony honoring four people, including Americans, for risking their lives to protect Jews during the Holocaust marked the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Alan Greenspan talked about the state of the U.S. economy. He said expanding the H1B visa program might help to increase productivity numbers. Other topics included the Federal Reserve’s rate increase and China’s economy. He spoke with CNBC’s Steven Liesman and responded to questions from members of the audience.

Former Senate colleagues, staff, and historians talked about senator Edward M. Kennedy’s (D-MA) legislative efforts for civil rights during his Senate career. This event took place at the opening ceremony for the completion of the Edward M. Kennedy Oral History Project. Prior to his death, Senator Kennedy recorded several interviews on his experiences in Government.

Former Treasury Secretaries Timothy Geithner, Henry Paulson, and Robert Rubin talked about about global economic trends, public finance and capital markets. Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook, moderated.

“The Global Economy: A Conversation with Timothy Geithner, Henry Paulson and Robert Rubin” was a luncheon program of the 18th annual Milken Institute Global Conference held April 26-29, 2015, at the Beverly Hilton.

President Obama participated in a panel discussion on poverty. Panelists also included Harvard University Professor Robert Putnam and American Enterprise Institute President Arthur Brooks. The discussion moderated by the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne.

This event was part of the three-day Catholic-Evangelical Leadership Summit on Overcoming Poverty at Georgetown University.
