On Wednesday, President Obama delivered a statement on the beheading of U.S. photojournalist James Foley by Islamic State (ISIL, ISIS) militants, saying the act “shocks the conscience of the entire world.â€
On Thursday, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Martin Dempsey briefed reporters about U.S. airstrikes in Iraq, the death of James Foley, and a failed effort to rescue him and other hostages.
Attorney General Eric Holder spoke Thursday about his recent trip to Ferguson, Missouri as part of a Department of Justice investigation into the police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown. He and Assistant Attorney General also spoke about a $16.65 billion settlement with Bank of America over the sale of toxic mortgage bonds.
Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) spoke about state and federal policies related to the influx of unaccompanied immigrant children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at an event hosted by the Heritage Foundation Thursday.
