On This Day: The Mutiny on the HMS Bounty

In December 1787, the HMS Bounty sailed from England under the leadership of Captain William Bligh. It was headed to Tahiti to collect breadfruit saplings and transport them to the West Indies. The ship and its crew arrived in Tahiti in October 1788 where it remained for several months. In April 1789, the HMS Bounty left Tahiti with its cargo and sailed toward the West Indies. On April 28, 1789, more than two dozen crew members seized the ship in a mutiny that was led by Fletcher Christian. View the videos below to learn about this event and the people who were involved.
