This bellringer features two clips related to the journey of runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad.

- How did the lantern play a role in helping runaway slaves escape safely?
- What information related to Jacob Burkle's background may have influenced his decision to become a director on the Underground Railroad? Do you think most conductors had similar backgrounds? Why or why not?
- How did Detroit play a role in the Underground Railroad? How was this similar to or different from Memphis' role?
- Why did the Second (2nd) Baptist Church form, and how did it play a role in the Underground Railroad?
- Compare what each guide discussed as the final destination for runaway slaves to gain freedom. How do their accounts differ? What do you think accounts for the differing perspective?
