The House approved a $467.5 billion six-bill spending package funding part of the government until the end of the fiscal year on September 30. The measure would next go to the Senate, which had until midnight on March 8 to pass it to avert a government shutdown. Another six spending bills funding the other half of the federal government would need to be approved by both chambers by March 22 to avoid a partial shutdown. Members also began debate on legislation that would expand small business access to capital.
