The Senate confirmed two U.S. District Court nominations: Julie Sneed, District of Middle Florida; and Melissa Damian, District of Southern Florida. Members also advanced Marjorie Rollinson’s nomination for IRS chief counsel and Treasury Department assistant general counsel. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced that he would step down as the Republican leader in November. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) spoke about her personal experiences having children through in vitro fertilization (IVF), and then asked unanimous consent for the Senate to pass her bill to protect the right to access IVF and other assisted reproductive technology services nationwide. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) objected, saying the bill went far beyond ensuring legal access to IVF. Several other Democratic senators then spoke on the topic.
