Steven Wise talked about his book Drawing the Line, published by Perseus Publishing. The book argues for giving certain “non-human animals” the basic legal rights that human beings enjoy, namely the right to bodily integrity and liberty. Professor Wise challenges the idea that these animals lack the qualities which form the legal basis for granting rights to human beings, identifying a number of animals that have demonstrated considerable autonomy and extraordinary cognitive abilities. He answered questions from the audience following his remarks. close
