PEN American Center presented a forum called “State of Emergency: Unconventional Readings” as part of their “Campaign for Core Freedoms.” Fifteen authors read selections from such writers as John Stuart Mill, Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Jose Marti, Miguel de Cervantes, Nawal El Saadawi, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Zbigniew Herbert, Dalton Trumbo, and James Baldwin.
