Thomas Hicks, chair of the Election Assistance Commission, and Connecticut Secretary of State Denise Merrill, president of the National Association of Secretaries of State, talked about 2016 voting issues. The Election Assistance Commission was created by the 2002 Help America Vote Act after the voting issues raised by the 2000 Gore-Bush presidential race. The Commission certifies voting equipment, issues voluntary voting guidelines, and develops testing systems. Secretaries of state are generally states' chief election officials. Commissioner Hicks participated by remote video from Chicago. Secretary Merrill participated by remote video from Hartford, Connecticut. After the interview the reporters in the studio discussed their responses with the host. close
