One of three forts built along the Bozeman Trail by the U.S. Army to protect travelers from attacks by Plains Indians, Fort Phil Kearny Historic Site gives visitors a feeling of what it was like for American soldiers to be stationed so far from civilization. Misty Stoll, site superintendent, provided insight into why American Indians resented their presence which led to two major battles, the Fetterman Fight and the Wagon Box Fight.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2019 LCV Cities Tour” in Sheridan, Wyoming, from July 6-12, 2019, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
